Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center
Get ready for an amazing adventure at Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center! We’ll be stepping into the oldest wildlife rehabilitation center in Costa Rica, where they’re working miracles every day! We’ll see how they rescue, heal, and release animals back into the wild, and learn about the incredible work they do to protect these amazing creatures.
Morning: History and science of making the perfect cup of coffee
This morning we’re going back in time in Costa Rica. We’re exploring a place where history meets nature: a former coffee plantation, now a thriving wildlife refuge! We’ll trek through rainforest trails, discover hidden waterfalls, and uncover 19th-century ruins, all while learning from expert guides about the amazing rainforest that surrounds us!
Evening: CATIE Botanical Garden Night hike
We’re diving into the world of sustainable solutions at CATIE! This international center is where they’re shaping the future of agriculture and protecting our planet. Get ready to be inspired by their groundbreaking research and learn how we can all be part of the solution
Morning Mud Balls
In the morning, we’re going to create bio-mud balls that will be used to clean our local rivers. Led by our non-profit partner organization, RAFA (Rivers And Forests Alliance) we’ll learn how microorganisms work to restore a healthy balance in our rivers ecosystem.
Afternoon rafting
In the afternoon, we’ll raft the Pacuare River to our private eco-lodge. Along the way, we’ll stop at creeks to explore these tributaries and learn about the biodiversity that lives in the river corridor.
ACACED Orientation, Water Testing from the River & Large Cat Lecture
Today, we’re putting our science skills to the test! We’ll be heading down to the Pacuare River, or a nearby creek, to conduct real-world water quality assessments. Working alongside biologists from ACACED, we’ll learn how to analyze water samples and understand the vital role of freshwater fish in the ecosystem. This isn’t just about cleaning off our muddy hands from the mud ball project; it’s about making a real contribution to environmental science!
This afternoon, get ready for an adrenaline rush! We’re offering a thrilling Tarzan swing for those who dare to take the leap! Then, as evening falls, we’ll gather for an insightful talk from a local expert about the jaguar corridor surrounding our lodge. You’ll learn about these incredible big cats, their behavior, and their importance to the ecosystem.
Raft the Pacuare Gorge
The Pacuare Gorge is what makes the Pacuare the Pacuare. Steep canyon walls, exciting rapids and waterfalls pouring into the river seemingly around every corner. This is an amazing day of whitewater and you’ll see why the Pacuare is considered a top ten river in the world.
After rafting, we will travel to Sarapiqui where we will be taking you on a night hike learning about bats in the rainforest.
Bat Experience
Get ready for a truly unique experience! We’re going to explore the world of bats, the often-overlooked champions of the tropics. We’ll be participating in a real-world scientific study, trapping bats at night and examining their vital role in pollination under microscopes during the day. This hands-on experience will change your perspective on these amazing creatures forever! It’s a fantastic way to conclude our incredible journey, and the Sarapiqui’s location ensures we can depart directly from the jungle.
