Day 1Arrive Costa Rica (Central Valley Hotel)Today we will meet you outside the airport and we will take you to your first hotel where you will have a welcome gathering and explanation of the itinerary. (Meals: Dinner) Day 2Visit Poas Crater, Monteverde Cloudforest, Night Hike (Monteverde Hotel)Today we start with a visit to the famous Poas Crater and then make the drive to the Monteverde Cloudforest. This is an area that has all the nature we will need for the two days we will be here. Today we will enjoy what is one of the coolest tours, the Night Hike. Everyone wants to see nature and thinks of seeing it during the day but this is a chance to go with guides who know the area and see the exciting things Nature does at night. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner) Day 3Visit the Monteverde Cloudforest & Zipline (Monteverde Hotel)Today we will visit the Monteverde cloudforest where our guides will take you on a hike and you will learn about the natural history of Costa Rica. This is a chance for everyone to gain an understanding of Costa Rica and its natural beauty and the unbelievable bio-diversity of such a small country. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner) Day 4Drive to Arenal area (Arenal Hotel)Today we will drive to the Arenal area where we will visit one of the most active volcanoes in the world. This is an amazing experience and we will watch the lava flow at night. The drive will take us around Lake Arenal which has amazing views of the northern plains and the Arenal Volcano. We’ll arrive at the hotel and visit the town of La Fortuna which is the town at the base of the volcano. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner) Day 5Rappel the Lost Canyon and La Fortuna Falls (Arenal Hotel)Today we will really get your adrenaline pumping when we’ll rappel what is called the Lost Canyon. This is an incredible hike through the rainforest of a canyon that has 5 waterfalls where the only way down is by ropes. We will do 5 rappels 2 of which are over 150ft. After lunch we will visit the famous La Fortuna Falls which is a place to take pictures and even take a swim in what is considered one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful waterfalls. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner) Day 6Drive to Turrialba area (Sitio de Mata Homestays)Today we will drive across the country and enjoy some stops along the way. We will visit a Cacao plantation and learn the process of how we get delicious chocolate from a plant. We will also go over the history of pineapples as we pass many plantations. Our final destination is the mountain town of Sitio de Mata. We’ll arrive in time for an early afternoon welcome of food and dance. We’ll meet our families and go with them to our homestays. These are great folks who love sharing their culture with you. Spanish or no Spanish you will do fine!!! (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner) Day 7Visit Cabecar Indian Reservation (Sitio de Mata)Today we will visit the Indian Reservation of the Cabecar’s which are some of Costa Rica’s most genuine Indians. We will take a drive into the mountains that look like they have no end and then enjoy the local dance and culture of this Indian tribe. The Indians offer their knowledge to us and educate us in the types of plants they use for medicine and how they survive with just the jungle. There are many ideas for community service in the Reservation. Sometimes it is just visiting with the Indians and giving soccer balls, notebooks, pens, and coloring books, and other times practicing some English with them, or manuel labor like painting or building in the area. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner) Day 8Service Project in Sitio de Mata (Sitio de Mata)Today our service projects will continue in the village of Sitio de Mata or small villages in the nearby area. We’ll share our time & talent by doing a variety of things like teaching some English, explaining some US history & culture, stressing the importance of recycling, painting, or just hanging out and playing a soccer game with the kids. (Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner) Day 9Raft Pacuare River (Central Valley Hotel)Today we will raft the Pacuare River. As you know by now it is one of the top five rivers in the world. We will get up and have breakfast in our homestays and then make our way to the river. We will spend the day on the river doing nature hikes and a lot of rafting with almost four hours on the river and an excellent river lunch. After the river we will head back to the Central Valley and San Jose area where we will stay at an airport hotel and get you ready for your flight home on day 10.
